2 GW LANDSTATIONS VER ALPHA EN NEDERWIEK, IJMUIDEN

The electricity produced by the IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwiek wind farms arrives on land at so-called land stations. A schematic overview of the transport from the wind turbine to the land station (and beyond) is shown in the adjacent figure.

Electricity from offshore wind turbines will converge on newly built offshore platforms (stations) with a capacity of 2GW per platform at sea. Underground (DC) high voltage connections of 525kV are required to transport the power to land. The underground high-voltage connections will run from the offshore platform through the North Sea and then come ashore at the yet-to-be-built onshore stations.  The 2GW IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwiek land stations will be built in Borssele.

GEO2 Engineering is involved in the geotechnical design of the various structures. The work includes:

  • Calculation of pile capacity.
  • Analysis of settlements and settlement differences during the operational phase, which is subject to stringent requirements.
  • On behalf of the Nederwiek Land Station, analyses were carried out for the installability of the foundation piles.
  • A prediction of vibrations during pile installation was also carried out.
