BOEKELERMEER, ALKMAAR
To the south of the municipality of Alkmaar, a port area has been developed along the Noord-Hollands Kanaal. The port consists of a dock and a longitudinal quay parallel to the Noord-Hollands Kanaal and contains over 650 metres of quay construction. The long quay lies on the polder side (inner slope) of the original Boekelerdijk; the slip-in harbour has been realised on the site of the original arable land and Boekelerdijk. The project includes the realisation of the harbour's quay construction, digging the harbour basin, creating an ecozone, preparing the business plots for construction and constructing the Aventurijnstraat (also the new flood barrier). The port is large enough for cargo ships up to and including shipping class CEMT Va.
Commissioned by Beens Groep B.V., GEO2 Engineering B.V. provided the design and implementation supervision of the quay construction. This included the design of the sheet pile walls and anchoring. The stability and settlement of the subsoil were also considered.
